As the 2024 European Championship approaches, concerns have arisen over French superstar Kylian Mbappe’s fitness. However, the forward has provided a positive update on his health, easing fears ahead of the tournament.
Injury Concerns
Mbappe, who is set to join Real Madrid, recently missed a training session with the French national team ahead of their pre-European Championship friendly against Canada. He was nursing a back complaint and had already suffered a knee injury during a 3-0 victory over Luxembourg.
Mbappe’s Statement
Despite the injuries, Mbappe played 15 minutes off the bench in the 0-0 draw against Canada. After the match, he reassured reporters that his recovery was “going very well” and expressed confidence in his ability to participate in the Euros.
Coach Deschamps’ Confidence
French head coach Didier Deschamps remains optimistic about his star player’s recovery. He explained that Mbappe received a significant blow to his knee in the match against Luxembourg, which caused considerable bruising. However, after receiving treatment, Mbappe showed improvement, and Deschamps emphasized the importance of not taking any risks before the tournament.
“Kylian received a blow during the last match (against Luxembourg) on Wednesday, and bef
ore the (training) session, there was significant bruising on the knee. He had treatment and was much better today, but even if he wanted to play everything, there was no risk to take,” Deschamps said.
Looking Ahead
Mbappe’s new Real Madrid teammate, Aurelien Tchouameni, also missed the friendly against Canada and is unlikely to be ready for France’s Euro 2024 opener against Austria on June 17. However, Tchouameni may be available for the subsequent Group D matches against the Netherlands and Poland.
With Mbappe’s positive update and Deschamps’ cautious optimism, French fans can hope to see their talismanic captain lead the team to glory in the 2024 European Championship. The squad’s blend of experienced players and emerging talents makes France a formidable contender in the tournament.
